I can’t rave enough about both THE GUEST and A WALK AMONG THE TOMBSTONES, both films that just recently arrived on Blu-Ray/DVD Combo Packs from Universal Pictures. Here are a few scenes, as well as some words on the films and working on them from actor DAN STEVENS. I highly recommend both films. THE GUEST was even my (more…)

Shu on Mark at the Movies

I reviewed (REVIEW HERE) and trashed a movie review and news program (Mark at the Movies) hosted by Mark S. Allen, a radio dj/personality in Sacramento not too long ago and he contacted me and asked me to be on his show. I thought it was a prank or joke. I thought I was going to be (more…)

I finally got my copy upon the release of Mike McPadden’s book, HEAVY METAL MOVIES: Guitar Barbarians, Mutant Bimbos, & Cult Zombies Amok in the 666 Most Ear-and Eye-Ripping Big-Scream Films Ever! The following is some footage from the reading at Quimby’s in Wicker Park, as well as a few photos taken at the event. I am currently reading the book and upon its completion will be reviewing it. In the meantime, I hope this video gets some movie geeks excited about the book and leads them to picking it up! (more…)

As stated in my previous post, the holidays are coming and what better way to celebrate them by attending the Macabre show at Reggie’s on Chicago’s South Side December 26th. Here is a brief 3-minute video advertising the (more…)

VIDEO: Jan Broberg’s Guide To Thespians, Sociopaths & Scream Queens!

Maniac mondo

In a short video I feel is worth mentioning, Director/Actor Michael Lee Stever (SATURDAY NIGHTMARES: THE ULTIMATE HORROR EXPO OF ALL TIME!, RESURRECTING CARRIE) is at it again making short mini-docs on some smaller names in film and garnering some unique footage and angles to some horror-themed topics of interest. Granted, as of this post, I still have not seen the MANIAC (2012) remake starring Elijah Wood, Nora Amezeder, and Jan Broberg but am more intrigued to (more…)

SHU-IZMZ and BAKEandDESTROY love Ian’s Pizza!

Check out the promo video that was made for SHU-IZMZ!

SHU-IZMZ at IAN’s Pizza keeping it DIRTY! DIRTY! DIRTY!

Natalie Slater, ME, and Mike Edison keeping it dirty!

Natalie Slater, ME, and Mike Edison keeping it dirty!

As some of you may know, I am a big fan of author Mike Edison. I am only 3/4 through his 2nd book, but the man writes about some subjects that are pretty awesome: SEX, PORN, WRESTLING, BUSH, and ROCK n’ ROLL. The man has quite some stories to tell, having written pornographic stories, publisher of HIGH TIMES, editor-in-chief of SCREW magazine, written for HUSTLER and PENTHOUSE LETTERS, as well as playing in a post-punk band, hardcore punk band, and his own band Edison Rocket Train. After reading I HAVE FUN EVERYWHERE I GO, I was hooked. The man has a way with words and is an inspiration to anyone who wants to live life to the fullest and is open to new views, experiences, and really digs the English language and the seedier side of it. My love of boobs, buns, and bush fell right in line with Edison’s writing and I can’t wait to finish his latest book, Dirty! Dirty! Dirty!: Of Playboys, Pigs, and Penthouse Paupers, An American Tale of Sex and Wonder.

Look for a review of it, probably sometime after the holidays when my bile buildup for Christmas has finally subsided and dissipated. For now, enjoy a quick but superbly edited SHU-IZMZ and BAKEandDESTROY promo that my buddy Josh Stephenson edited at IAN’S PIZZA in Wrigleyville, Chicago, IL! Natalie is a good friend of mine and is the one that turned me on to Mike Edison. I am forever grateful to her for this! The video will be up at YOUTUBE.COM soon, so be sure to search for it at the SHU-IZMZ Channel. For now, enjoy it here. More footage of Mike doing his highly entertaining spoken word, with excerpts from his DIRTY! DIRTY! DIRTY! and plenty of raunchy rhetoric! @ Mike Edison’s book signing Chicago from joshstep on Vimeo.

Support Your Local Video Store?

Video Stores. They are soon going to be going the way of Laser Discs, Betamax, and VHS…well, wait! VHS is having a revival of sorts, as evidenced by the recent SLEDGEHAMMER release by Intervision, as well as the HOUSE OF THE DEVIL gimmick not too long ago (both of which I wish I had gotten a hold of!). So now Videomatica, a video store that rents movies in Vancouver, BC in Canada, is going out of business it seems. Why is this being covered over here at SHU-IZMZ from a dude that lives in Chicago and its Northwest suburbs all of his life and whom has only visited Toronto, Ontario once when he was in high school? Well, because Videomatica just so happens to be the video store that the eminent Robin Bougie worked at. Robin is the editor of Cinema Sewer Vol. 1 and 2 (and soon to be Volume 3) as well as publishing the Cinema Sewer comicbook-formatted zine, which I adore.

So, check out the first episode of the webzine from Red Wheelbarrow to commemorate the event. The video is embedded below.
